Institute of Solar Energy Materials and Devices was established in 1979. From the beginning, it has been focused on the fundamental research and industrialization technologies. The mostly studied photovoltaic devices include cadmium telluride thin film solar cells, perovskite thin film solar cells and ultra-high efficiency thin film solar cells. This institute has undertaken more than 40 scientific research projects such as the National High Technology Research and Development Program, the National Basic Research Program of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Defense Basic Scientific Research program of China and many local funds from Sichuan province and Chengdu city. The accumulative total supporting funds sums up to over 90 million RMB. It has more than 150 SCI recorded publications and a dozen of authorized patents. There are 5 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 lecturers and more than 30 master and doctoral program students. It holds labs on both Wangjiang Campus and Shuangliu Campus with area of 800 m2 and 260 m2, respectively. It is an ideal place for solar cell and other semiconductor device researches since it has more than 20 thin film preparation and post (thermal) treatment systems, more than 10 characterization equipments for thin film property and device performance. All these soft and hard resources demonstrate that the institute is a first-class research platform for thin film solar cells in China.
